Abhishek Sharma’s mentor Yuvraj Singh was left mightily impressed with the India opener after he slammed a 46-ball century during the second T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare on Sunday. That century eventually paved the way for India as they posted 234/2 on the board, a total that they successfully defended with eight balls to spare.
Abhishek was playing just his second T20I for India on Sunday, and only a day earlier, the 23 year-old endured a horror start to his international career with a four-ball duck. Abhishek, who had made names in IPL 2024 with Sunrisers Hyderabad, hit seven fours and eight sixes during his scintillating knock.

Abhishek can be seen practicing batting in the nets among various other exercises in the video shared by Yuvraj Singh.

Abhishek’s century was also India’s joint-third fastest ton in T20Is. Wessley Madhevere (43) was Zimbabwe’s top-scorer as Zimbabwe were all out for 134 in 18.4 overs. Avesh Khan (3/15) and Mukesh Kumar (3/37) were the pick of the bowlers whereas Ravi Bishnoi (2/11) and Washington Sundar (1/28) also made crucial contributions.

“This has happened from our under-12 days, I’d say. Whenever there was a pressure game, or a match where I thought I must perform, I used his bat. Even in the IPL also, I usually ask for a bat from him. Today he gave me his bat, and it went really well,” he added.
The five-match series is thus level at 1-1 after Zimbabwe had clinched a 13-run win in the first match on Saturday in what was a low-scoring affair. The third T20I will be played at the same venue on Wednesday.
