AB de Villiers on T20 World Cup: 'India are one of the teams with best chance'

AB de Villiers has shared India are one of the teams with best chance at the ICC T20 World Cup later in the year. The tournament will be held in the USA and the West Indies starting on 1 June and conclude on 29 June. Read | De Villiers apologises for sharing 'false information' on Kohli-Anushka The former South Africa batter hailed the impact of India’s domestic structure and most importantly of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the growth of the shortest format in the country. “I do think they (India) are one of teams with best chance. The IPL has been going on for so many years and it has really strengthened the depth of Indian cricket,” said De Villiers while responding to news agency PTI. “They will have to play the big moments well, they will have to take the opportunities at the right time and be at the right place with a little bit of luck,” he added. India will enter the T20 World Cup with a desire to end their barren run in ICC tournaments. The Men in Blue have not won an ICC tournament since the Champions Trophy in 2003. There have been near-misses at the 2014 T20 World Cup, 2021 and 2023 ICC World Test Championship, 2017 Champions Trophy and 2023 ODI World Cup. India also endured semi-final exits in the 2015 ODI World Cup, 2016 T20 World Cup, 2019 ODI World Cup and 2022 T20 World Cup. At the T20 World Cup, India won the inaugural edition in 2007 and have fallen short at each tournament since.
