Failures of Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav in the opening T20I against South Africa in Cuttack did not go down well with the fans as the leadership duo was heavily trolled after their early dismissals on Tuesday, December 9.

Gill hit a boundary on the first ball he faced but was caught at mid-on trying to hit another one on the very next delivery. Suryakumar too was dismissed in a similar manner for just 11. Both the batters were dismissed by Lungi Ngidi.
The early dismissals on a tricky surface at the Barabati Stadium helped South Africa stop India to just 40 in the powerplay.
IND vs SA: ‘Time running out’ for Gill
Shubman Gill was included into the Indian T20I side on the expense of Sanju Samson and social media has not stopped reminding the T20I vice captain that time is running out for him.
Gill has not scored a fifty for India in this format in his last 16 innings. In fact, since his return to the T20I side in September ahead of the Asia Cup, he has crossed 30 only on three occasions.
With Samson on the bench and contenders like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad not even in the squad, pressure continues to rise on Gill to perform.
The way BCCI is pushing Gill is actually harming him instead of the other way around https://t.co/nczA0jya70

View AllGill is running out of time in the T20I side. I still believe he's the right pick at the top above Jaiswal, but also true that he hasn't grabbed the chance so far.

Suryakumar’s form under scanner
Captain Suryakumar too was trolled heavily on social media. The Indian T20I skipper has not been at his best in India colours for some time now.
The former top-ranked T20I batter has been unable to hit form this year. In 16 innings in 2025, Suryakumar averages only 15 at a strike rate of 126. Him being the captain only increase the pressure on him.

It's high time for India to get rid off Suryakumar Yadav. Now, he is just a burden on Indian team. One of the most overhyped player for India. You haven't seen him to score run in important matches either in a normal match too. pic.twitter.com/cySPOGiiUm
