Gill shatters several records with his memorable knock in Manchester; joins elite company of Bradman, Gavaskar, & Kohli

Shubman Gill’s name loudly reverberated on Day 5 of the Manchester Test. The Indian captain shined with the bat and against all odds smashed his 9th Test ton. In the course, he modified many heads in the record books.

Silencing all his detractors, India captain Shubman Gill has struck a memorable century in the most needful of situations in Manchester on Day 5 of the 4th Test against England. Coming into the middle when India were reeling at 0/2, the team was desperately banking on Gill to score, and the skipper delivered with the bat to take India out of dire straits. After resuming the knock at 78* on Day 5, he steadily approached his hundred and eventually got there in the 83rd over of the innings.

As Gill had already amassed a sizeable total in the series, the century knock has taken him past the monumental figure of 700. In the course, Gill has smashed a number of records and etched his name among some of the most prominent men in the sport.

Shubman Gill left Aussie legend Greg Chappell behind to take the second position in the list of individuals with most runs in debut series as Test captain.

That’s not all! Shubman Gill has come in the same bracket as that of Sir Donald Bradman in the context that he now has most hundreds in a Test series as captain. He shares the top space with Bradman and Indian cricket’s batting legend, Sunil Gavaskar.
