Shubman Gill had a dream start to his Test captaincy career in the first Test against England at Leeds . Leading India for the first time in a Test match, Gill impressed with his fluent batting. He scored a brilliant fifty in just 56 balls, which is now his fastest half-century in Test cricket by balls faced.
Gill registers big record on captaincy debut
With this innings, Gill also became the ninth Indian player to score 50 or more in his first innings as Test captain. At 25 years and 285 days, he is now the youngest Indian among those nine to do so.
Gill, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal, is putting on a masterclass at Headingley as India continue to dominate the second session. The pair has stitched together a solid unbeaten partnership of over 100 runs after early setbacks, with Jaiswal hitting a well-deserved fifth Test century and Gill cruising past his fifty.
