India’s young batting sensation Shubman Gill has further cemented his place as the No. 1 ranked ODI batter in the latest ICC rankings update, widening the gap between himself and Pakistan’s Babar Azam. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has returned to the top five after his crucial century against Pakistan in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Shubman Gill consolidates his position at the top

Gill played a pivotal role in India’s successful group-stage campaign, scoring an unbeaten 101 against Bangladesh and a steady 46 against Pakistan in Dubai. His performances helped India secure a semifinal berth in the tournament, and he has now gained 21 rating points, moving up to 817 points. The gap between Gill and second-placed Babar Azam has increased from 23 to 47 points.

Shubman Gill has been in brilliant form in ODI cricket, scoring 87, 60, 112, 101* and 46 in his last five innings. He has eight hundreds and 15 half-centuries and is currently averaging 62.13 in the 50-over format. Gill had an underwhelming red-ball tour to Australia, where he failed miserably with the bat.
