Shubman Gill is reportedly set to miss out on the Duleep Trophy due to an illness, but the North Zone are unaware of the proceedings. Indian Test team captain Gill has been announced as North Zone captain for the Duleep Trophy , which starts for them on 28 August with a match against East Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Earlier reports in Dainik Jagran and Cricbuzz stated that the 25-year-old Gill is unwell as he is suffering from a viral fever. As a result, blood tests were conducted last week in Mumbai and the results are with the BCCI medical team. Gill is reportedly resting at his home in Chandigarh and would need a clearance from BCCI to play for the North Zone.
No news on Gill as North Zone gets ready for Duleep Trophy
The North Zone team is already in Bengaluru for their Duleep Trophy opener, but the team is still not sure if Gill will join the squad.
“If Shubman is not available, he would inform the selectors and/or the BCCI,” a North Zone coach staff member told RevSportz. “We haven’t heard anything from them, or Shubman, as yet, and accordingly, we are expecting him to join the squad today, along with Harshit Rana. Beyond this, I can’t say anything. If he isn’t available, then I think we will be informed.”
In Gill’s absence, vice-captain Ankit Kumar could lead the North Zone team.
In case, due to his selection in the Asia Cup 2025 squad, Gill was only expected to feature in one match for the North Zone and now that also looks unlikely due to his illness.
The unfortunate illness is set to deprive some domestic players of an opportunity to rub shoulders with the Indian Test captain.
