Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) decision to omit former captain Shreyas Iyer from the social media post celebrating the first anniversary of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 title has resulted in the franchise facing criticism from some fans. The defending champions KKR, who have failed to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs, celebrate one year of winning the title last year with a special graphic on social media, which included the current players who were also part of the team last year and the IPL trophy. However, Shreyas Iyer, who captained KKR in IPL 2024, was missing from the graphic.
Shreyas Iyer fans criticise KKR for title win anniversary post
It’s understandable as Iyer is now part of the rival team, Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the IPL 2025 is still on. However, Iyer’s fans were not happy as they criticised the franchise for ignoring the Indian cricketer.
“The man gave it everything.. and you can’t even give him a mention? KKR, where’s Iyer in the frame?” a fan replied to KKR’s celebratory post on X.

KKR, where’s Iyer in the frame?🤦♂️
Here are some more reactions:
They have another successful IYER in the frame.. 24cr with zero perfomance in 2025 ( if I've got 24cr doesn't mean I need to perform in every match) Lol 😂😂😂

Iyer’s PBKS, meanwhile, have already reached the IPL 2025 playoffs and sealed a top-two spot on Monday by beating Mumbai Indians (MI). Shreyas Iyer was surprisingly released by KKR ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction and he ended up at PBKS for 26.75 crore.
Now, Iyer has become the first captain in IPL history to help three different teams finish in the top two of the IPL league stage.
After beating MI, Iyer detailed how the change in the thinking process has helped PBKS do well in IPL 2025.
“I personally feel everyone stepped up at the right time. We have been in that mindset that we have to win no matter what the situation. Kudos to everyone and the management. Ricky has been fantastic, and for me it was about gaining the trust of every individual. And that happened by winning matches, and I personally feel we need to maintain that relationship throughout. When you are down in the dumps, it is easy to backstab each other,” Iyer said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
“We have a camaraderie from the last few years, he (Ponting) lets me be decisive on the field, all these things have culminated in a great way. Ecstatic that everything is working,” he added.
