Corbin Bosch returns in the following over and he concedes six in his second over, including a four to Archer in the third delivery.

Chahar keeps things tidy in the first five deliveries of his second over, conceding three runs and nearly collecting a second wicket in as many overs with the ‘Hitman’ – who hasn’t been subbed off the field just yet – putting down a catch at slip after an outside edge off Rana’s bat.

Rickelton also went for the catch, diving to his left, and that might have complicated things for the 38-year-old who is an excellent slip fielder Rana makes it worse for the bowler with a boundary off the last ball, steering a full delivery through midwicket. RR 27/2 after 3

Jaiswal tees off right after Suryavanshi’s dismissal, smashing senior New Zealand left-arm pacer Trent Boult for a couple of sixes in the first three deliveries of the second over – charing down the track and steering the ball over deep cover before clearing long on.

Jofra Archer and Akash Madhwal concede 8 and 13 runs respectively in the last two overs of the Mumbai Indians innings as the five-time champions post 217/2 after Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag opts to field! Archer signs off wicketless for 42 runs, conceding eight in his final over including a boundary to Surya in the second delivery that is the result of a lap towards fine leg off a full toss.

Madhwal, on the other hand, keeps things tidy in the first half of the 20th over, only to concede a four and a six in the last three deliveries of the innings. While Pandya clips a low full toss through midwicket, SKY picks a slower ball and deposits it over long on.

Archer returns to the attack for the first time since the powerplay, with Pandya welcoming him back with a couple of doubles and a singles. SKY later helps himself to another six with a pull, guiding a slower bouncer towards fine leg, bringing up the fifty partnership with HP in the process.

Farooqi signs off wicketless for 54 runs in the following over, conceding 21 in his final over of the evening as Pandya smashes him for three fours and a majestic six straight down the ground. What’s impressive is the fact that each boundary came off a different delivery – from a low full toss and a length ball to a slower bouncer and a short, wide delivery. Theekshana lets out a loud cry in pain after getting stuck on his right hand, with Pandya channeling all of his strength into smashing a full delivery from the off-spinner straight down the ground. And so powerful is the shot that it runs all the way to the fence. Surya later clears the fine leg fence with a typical lap off a full toss, resulting in a 15-run over for the Sri Lankan. Madhwal had kept things tidy in the previous over, conceding seven without giving away a boundary.

Both Surya (25*) and skipper Pandya (16*) are off to promising starts after Rickelton and Rohit’s dismissals as Mumbai Indians reach 161/2 at the end of 16 overs. Second timeout signalled by the umpire.

Parag bowls just the over the Royals need, conceding just three runs in his second over while getting rid of the set Rohit, who departs for 53 after mishitting a full, wide ball from the off-spinner. Yashasvi Jaiswal collects the ball near long off after running to his right.

The Rohit-Ryan stand goes past the century mark in the 11th over, in which Royals skipper Riyan Parag concedes nine in his first over of the evening. Rohit later completes his fifty in 31 balls with a boundary off Theekshana, steering a full, wide delivery behind point.

Kartikeya concedes 16 in his second over after a tidy start to his spell. Rohit collects back-to-back boundaries at the start of the over, targeting the leg side on both occasions. Rickelton later completes his third half-century of his maiden IPL season with a maximum in the penultimate delivery, pulling a short ball into the stands beyond midwicket.

Madhwal keeps things tidy for the most part in the 10th over, collecting a couple of dots with pin-point yorkers, only for Rohit to flex his authority once again with a lovely inside out shot over extra cover off a yorker. MI 99/0 after 10

Change from both ends after the conclusion of the powerplay and the timeout. Left-arm spinner Kumar Kartikeya, who was part of MI for three seasons, starts off with a six-run over which includes a boundary to Rickelton in the fourth delivery.

The South African later collects back-to-back fours off Akash Madhwal – who had collected 5/5 in MI’s victory over Lucknow Super Giants in the 2023 Eliminator. Was taking Archer off the attack in the third over the right call by Parag, especially since Rohit was under pressure after narrowly escaping an LBW dismissal in the previous over? Rohit’s a lot more confident by the time Archer returns in the fifth over, making room and slapping a short delivery from the express pacer through the gap between backward point and short third man.

Rickelton later collects 12 runs in the last three deliveries, including a six and a four in successive balls as MI’s run rate suddenly jumps to 9. MI 45/0 after 5

Rohit collects the first boundary of the innings with a pull behind square in the fourth delivery of the second over, in which left-arm seamer Fazalhaq Farooqi starts off with a wide. The Afghan pacer, however, responds with a successful shout for an LBW in the very next ball, foxing Rohit with his Kryptonite – the inswinger from over the wicket (left-handed pacer).

Rohit decides to take this upstairs in the very last second, and ball-tracking shows the ball to be pitching outside by a matter of millimetres. MI 9/0 after 2

Official records mention 27 March 2011 as Rajasthan Royals opening batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s date of birth, making him the youngest player in IPL history as well as the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket.

Suryavanshi, however, had claimed in an interview posted on YouTube in April 2023 that he would be turning 14 in September that year, meaning he was born in 2009 and not 2011 that is the official record. ( READ MORE )

And in just his third IPL match on Monday, Suryavanshi would slam a 35-ball century – the fastest by an Indian in the league and the second-fastest overall – to become the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket. The ton also helped RR snap their five-match losing streak, keeping their hopes of reaching the playoffs hanging by a thread.
