Rohit Sharma has become the No 1 ODI batter for the first time in his career in the latest update to the ICC men’s ODI batting rankings on Wednesday. The former India captain has removed teammate and new ODI captain Shubman Gill from the top spot.
Rohit’s best ODI batting ranking till now was the No 2 spot, but he now sits at the top with 781 rating points after scoring 121 not out and 73 in his last two ODIs in Australia. The 38-year-old is one of the oldest batters to become the No 1 batter in ODIs.
Rohit removes Gill to become No 1 in ODIs
Gill, meanwhile, has dropped to No 3 position after scoring 45 runs in three ODIs in Australia. The Indian batter has 745 rating points, while Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran is in the second spot with 764 rating points.
Pakistan star Babar Azam (739) remains static at No 4, while Kiwi batter Daryl Mitchell (734) has jumped one spot up to complete the top five.
Mitchell has replaced Indian batting star Virat Kohli at the No 5 spot after the former India captain suffered two consecutive ducks in ODIs for the first time in Australia.
Kohli redeemed himself with a score of 74 not out in the final ODI as India secured a consolation win at Sydney. Kohli has now dropped to the sixth spot with 725 points.
The only other Indian in the top is Shreyas Iyer at nine. The Mumbai batter is currently hospitalised in Sydney to receive treatment for a dangerous spleen injury.
