Rohit Sharma has etched his name in the history books by becoming the first-ever captain to lead his team to the final in all four major ICC men’s tournaments. With India’s latest triumph over Australia in the Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final, Rohit has now taken the Men in Blue to the summit clash of the World Test Championship (2023), ODI World Cup (2023), T20 World Cup (2024), and the Champions Trophy (2025).

A record no captain has achieved
No other captain, not even the legendary MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli, has managed to accomplish this feat. While Dhoni remains India’s most decorated captain, having won three ICC trophies (T20 World Cup 2007, ODI World Cup 2011, and Champions Trophy 2013), he never reached the final of the World Test Championship because there was no WTC during his tenure as skipper. Similarly, Kohli led India to the final of the Champions Trophy in 2017 and WTC in 2021 but could not guide them to as many summit clashes across formats as Rohit has.
India entered the semi-final against Australia unbeaten in the tournament, having topped their group with three wins in three matches. Chasing 265, India were once again led by Virat Kohli’s masterful 84-run knock, ensuring a four-wicket win and yet another ICC final appearance. This is India’s third consecutive ICC tournament final in the last two years.
While Rohit Sharma has already achieved an unprecedented record, now his ultimate goal remains lifting the Champions Trophy. Having fallen short in the WTC 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia, he will be determined to clinch silverware this time around. With India now set to play the Champions Trophy 2025 final in Dubai on 9 March, Rohit has another golden opportunity to add to his legacy.
South Africa and New Zealand are slated to play the second semi-final on Wednesday and the team that wins will face India in the final.
