Mumbai Indians batter Rohit Sharma is facing criticism on social media platforms for a successful DRS (Decision Review System) call against the Rajasthan Royals, as many believe the India captain’s appeal was accepted despite him running out of time. As per the rules, any appeal for DRS has to be made within the 15-second countdown.

The DRS was taken by the former MI skipper in the second over of the Indian Premier League 2025 match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Wednesday. At the time of appeal, Rohit was on seven from seven balls as Fazalhaq Farooqi managed to beat him with a length ball that rapped him on the pads.

In real-time, the delivery looked pretty straight, however, the batter survived eventually as the replays showed that the ball had pitched marginally outside the line of the leg stump.

Now, the replays were only used because Rohit’s DRS appeal was accepted. The whole controversy is around the timing of the appeal. Some fans feel Rohit made the appeal after the 15-second countdown was over, while a few felt he made it on the last remaining second.

Rohit Sharma took the DRS after time ran out. How can the Umpire allow him to use DRS after time expired? Will they allow this if it was a RR batter?

Nonetheless, Rohit went on to score a blistering 53 off just 36 balls as Mumbai Indians posted 217/2 and won the match by 100 runs to knock out Rajasthan Royals from IPL 2025 .

Unhappy fans felt injustice was done against the Rajasthan Royals and they vented their frustration on social media platforms. “What’s the point of having the DRS timer if it won’t be used. By the time Rohit Sharma reviewed that, the countdown had already elapsed, and the umpire did not take that into consideration. #mi #IPL2025  #RohitSharma,” a fan wrote, complaining about Rohit’s appeal being accepted after the countdown was over.

Another fan alleged that the Mumbai Indians were assisted by the officials in their win over RR. “Mumbai Umpire Indians is back with a bang. Rohit Sharma reviewed after DRS timer was over but no worries.”

While Rajasthan Royals fans have their own reasons to feel aggrieved about the incident, a careful examination of the footage shows that Rohit began the process of making the appeal within the 15-second countdown.
