India’s vice-captain Rishabh Pant addressed the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash and said that the team will keep that in mind when they head into the five-match Test series against England, starting Friday, 20 June. Pant said the players are determined to bring some happiness back to the nation after the shocking incident.

An Air India flight travelling from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after takeoff last week, killing 241 people on board. Only one passenger survived the crash by jumping off the emergency window. The crash was one of the worst aviation tragedies in India’s history and left the entire country heartbroken.

Pant wants to make India happy again

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Pant said, “What happened in the aircraft (crash), I think the whole India was disheartened but at the same time the only thing from our side…we are going to be sticking with them, how we can make India happy again.”

Pant, who will be batting at No. 5 and is also taking up leadership responsibility as the new vice-captain, said the team understands the emotions of the nation right now. He said that they will put their best foot forward going into the first match at Headingley, Leeds.
