Rishabh Pant will continue to sit on the sidelines on Day 2 of the Lord's Test against England on Friday as he is yet to recover from a finger injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed. In Pant’s absence, Dhruv Jurel will continue to keep the wickets for India on Day 2.

Pant suffered a blow to his left index finger in the 34th over on Day 1 as he put in a dive to stop a Jasprit Bumrah delivery on leg. Pant managed to get his fingers to his ball, which hit the top of his left index finger.

Pant walked off the pitch after the 34th over, with Jurel replacing him. As per the MCC rules since 2017, a team can use a substitute wicket-keeper after approval from the on-field umpires. Jurel would not be allowed to bat.

There’s still no clarity on how long Pant will need to recover from the injury, but BCCI announced on Friday that he will not be keeping on Day 2 of the Lord’s Test.

With the Lord’s pitch being slow, a score of 350 or more would be the minimum that England would be targetting. However, India, who bat last in this Test, would want to dismiss the English batters much earlier.
