Indian cricket’s biggest names gathered in London for Yuvraj Singh’s charity gala on Tuesday to support his cancer foundation, YouWeCan. The grand event, held just before the Lord’s Test between India and England , reportedly raised over £1 million (over Rs 11 crore) for cancer patients. Meanwhile, it was India’s Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant who stole the show.
Pant surprises with a £17,000 bid
In one of the most entertaining moments of the night, Rishabh Pant entered a fierce bidding war to win the right to present an award to India’s MVP Jasprit Bumrah. According to The Indian Express, Pant shocked everyone by placing the highest bid of £17,000 (over Rs 19 lakh) to win the right to present the award to Bumrah.
The report stated that Pant’s teammates, who were seated on a table beside him, couldn’t stop laughing as he kept raising his paddle against bidders from all over London and across the world. The event brought together cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Ravi Shastri, Kevin Pietersen, Chris Gayle, and the current Indian team.

Gambhir’s smile gets a mention too
Yuvraj Singh teased his former teammate Gautam Gambhir during the event, saying “There needs to be a bid on making Gambhir smile!”
Yuvraj also praised Gambhir and India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar for their role in building the current Indian team. “The decisions Gambhir and Ajit took have played a big role in the team doing well,” he said.
Fun awards for Indian players
The charity gala also featured some light-hearted awards given to Indian players. Pant was awarded for being the last to board the team bus. Kuldeep Yadav got his for blaming “bad times” whenever he performed poorly. Jadeja was crowned the “most persistent DRS requester.”
Even Mohammed Siraj got roasted, as India captain Shubman Gill jokingly said, “Whenever the ball hits the pad, Siraj thinks it’s out,” while showing with his hands how far off the ball sometimes is from the stumps. The whole Indian team was seen laughing.

Sachin Tendulkar spoke about the 2011 World Cup win. He remembered how, just before India’s first match, he took Yuvraj out for dinner and noticed something wasn’t right. “Yuvi didn’t have his usual energy, but he promised me that he would win the World Cup,” Tendulkar said.
Virat Kohli, who arrived later in the night, also took the stage. When called on stage and reminded about his Test retirement, Kohli said “I just coloured my beard two days back… when you start doing that every four days, it’s time!”
