Richa Ghosh played one of the best innings of her career as she smashed a quickfire 94 to help India recover from a collapse and post 251 against South Africa in their ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 match in Visakhapatnam on Thursday, October 9.
Coming in to bat at No. 8, Richa turned the game around after India had slipped to 102 for 6 in the 26th over. The wicketkeeper-batter hit 11 fours and 4 sixes in her 77-ball knock and built two crucial partnerships to give India a fighting total.
Richa also achieved two big milestones during her innings. She became the fastest Indian and third-fastest batter overall to reach 1000 runs in women’s ODIs, getting there in just 1010 balls. Only Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner (917 balls) and England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt (943 balls) have reached the mark quicker.
Her 94-run knock is now also the highest individual score by a No. 8 or lower batter in women’s ODIs, breaking South Africa’s Chloe Tryon’s previous record of 74 against Sri Lanka earlier this year. Her 88-run partnership with Sneh Rana also set a new record for the highest eighth-wicket stand in a Women’s ODI World Cup.
Fans react to Richa Ghosh’s knock
Fans were in awe of Richa’s fearless batting as they took to social media to shower praise on her. “Richa Ghosh has played one of the best innings ever in a World Cup. What a knock. From nowhere she took us to a solid total,” one fan wrote. Another added, “Richa Ghosh — only player who would make me watch INDW batting.”

What a crucial knock this has been!
Richa Ghosh is becoming a terrific player! The talent was clearly visible the day she played her first international match and she has kept becoming better everyday since then. She is so good at 22, imagine what she is going to become in the years to come. What an incredible…

An outstanding innings from Richa Ghosh when India needed it badly. She came to the crease after seeing India Women go from 83-1 to 102-6, that was an extremely difficult situation to come in, she came, took the innings forward & delivered lusty blows at the end. Very well done.
