And the victory takes the Royal Challengers Bengaluru past Mumbai Indians to the third spot, with their playoff hopes very much alive and kicking in the second half of the season.

Yash Dayal gets rid of Shubman Dubey at the start of the final over, the latter holing out to Phil Salt at deep midwicket to depart for 12. All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga is run-out two balls later while charging back for a second run, reducing the last three deliveries of the chase to a mere formality as Rajasthan Royals finish on 194/9 after being set 206 to win!

The Rajasthan Royals find a way to fall short in a run chase despite finding themselves well on top yet again as they suffer their fifth defeat in a row and their seventh overall! And at this point, surely their hopes of reaching the playoffs are all but over, even if not officially!

Josh Hazlewood strikes twice while conceding just a single in a dramatic late twist as Royal Challengers Bengaluru suddenly find themselves on top with Rajasthan Royals needing 17 off 6!

Dhruv Jurel gets an under-edge while attempting to steer a full, wide delivery, getting a deflection off the back-side of his bat. Jofra Archer departs the very next ball, getting a thick outside-edge that results in a simple catch for Rajat Patidar at extra cover. RR 189/7; need 17 off 6

The Australian pacer breaks the fifth-wicket partnership that was starting to look promising for the Royals, cramping the West Indian for room with a back-of-length delivery which results in an inside edge to the keeper. Shubham Dubey walks in next and opens his account with a four off the last ball of the over.

The Royals, however, claw back in the following over with Jurel and Dubey collecting a six each in Bhuvneshwar’s final over of the evening. Jurel adds to Bhuvi’s misery with back-to-back fours in the last balls, directing the ball fine towards either side of the wicketkeeper as the senior pacer signs off with 1/50 after conceding 22 in his final over. Krunal strikes for the second time in three overs as Royal Challengers Bengaluru fight back in the middle overs! Rana was building a steady fourth-wicket stand with Jurel when he tried to sweep a length ball from the left-arm spinner. Bhuvi, however, had to jump in order to grab the ball completing the catch on his second attempt.

The RR captain is a lot more in control when he smashes Suyash for a maximum over deep square leg in the following over. Gets a four two balls later, albeit off a thick outside edge off a quicker ball. RR 99/2 after 8

Sandeep concedes 16 in his final over of the evening to sign off with figures of 2/45, with Tim David hitting a six towards deep extra cover despite a mishit in the penultimate delivery. Jitesh collects his third four in the same over, slapping a short, wide ball over cover.

Archer keeps it tidy in first three balls of the final over by conceding just two singles before Jitesh brings up RCB’s 200 by pulling a slower ball towards deep midwicket. Jitesh and David collect a single each in the last two balls of the innings, the latter getting run-out in the final ball while attempting to complete a second run.

Not only is 205/5 RCB’s highest score at the Chinnaswamy this season, it’s also the first time they’ve crossed 200 against RR in a decade!

Nitish Rana completes another catch, albeit after juggling a simple catch several times, as Devdutt Padikkal departs for 50 off 27 balls, following Virat Kohli to the dugout in the very next over after hitting a slower delivery straight to mid off.

Captain Rajat Patidar lasts just three deliveries at the centre as he gets caught-behind for 1. Jitesh Sharma ruins what was turning out to be an outstanding over for RR with a boundary off the final ball, albeit off an outside edge. RR 167/4 after 17

The 22-run over by Deshpande forces Parag to bring Archer back in the following over, and the Barbadian-born English pacer strikes right away with Virat Kohli offering Nitish Rana the easiest of catches at extra cover after mishitting a leg-cutter.

Timeout taken after the dismissal, with new batter Tim David opening his account with a boundary in his second ball. Excellent over by Archer though, conceding just four in addition to get the prized wicket of Kohli. RCB 160/2 after 16

Parag’s decision to hold Archer back for the death overs is giving Kohli and Padikkal the license to score freely in the middle overs, with Deshpande getting smashed for three maximums after being brought back in the 15th over.

Padikkal slashes a short, wide delivery behind point at the start of the over before hitting a low full toss down the ground for a flat six to complete the milestone. Kohli whips a fuller delivery in the fourth ball over midwicket for his second maximum. RCB 156/1 after 15

Padikkal takes his second-wicket partnership with Kohli past the fifty-mark, cutting a googly from Hasaranga through backward point for a four. The Sri Lankan leg-spinner concedes 10 in his final over to sign off with figures of 1/30.

Parag brings himself back into the attack in the following over, and gets hit for 15 with Padikkal and Kohli collecting a six each – the latter clearing the straight boundary despite hitting a wide delivery off the bottom of the bat. RCB 134/1 after 14

Kohli brings up the milestone with back-to-back fours in the 12th over after Sandeep Sharma is brought back to try and prise out his wicket. Kohli gets a thick outside edge towards deep backward point in the third delivery before getting an outside edge towards third man in the following delivery. This after Hasaranga concedes his first boundary this evening in an 11-run third over.

The breakthrough also comes right after a timeout, with Salt offering Shimron Hetmyer a simple catch at deep midwicket while trying to clear the fence with a slog-sweep, getting a thick top-edge in the end. Excellent start for the Sri Lankan all-rounder as he concedes just three singles in addition to the wicket.

Kohli, however, collects a boundary off RR skipper Parag in the following over with a pull through midwicket to keep the Royals under some pressure. RR 69/1 after 8

Rajasthan Royals find themselves needing to win each of their remaining matches in order to keep their playoff hopes alive. The team, however, will not be eliminated if they lose the upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, as teams have qualified with 14 points multiple times in the past, with Sunrisers Hyderabad qualifying with 12!

Such scenarios, however, are heavily dependent on other results as well as Net Run Rate, and there is no guarantee RR will make it even if they win each of their remaining games after losing the upcoming match in Bengaluru.
