The 34th match of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) was scheduled to get underway at 7.30 pm IST with toss taking place half-an-hour earlier. However, players and support staff remained confined to their dressing room well after the scheduled start of play thanks to rain at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
RCB are aiming to end their losing run at home this season while PBKS are hopeful of collecting a second win in as many outings after their dramatic 16-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders at home earlier this week.

The weather interruptions, however, threatens to extend RCB’s winless run at the Chinnaswamy by raising the possibility of a washout, although both players as well as fans will be hopeful of some action taking place at the iconic venue on Friday.
What are IPL’s playing conditions for rain-affected matches?
An extra 60 minutes is allotted in order to allow a rain-affected game to be completed, with 12 am set as the deadline for set window (8 pm for afternoon matches in double-headers). The time allocated for ‘strategic time-outs’ is also taken into account in order to have a full 20-over contest in a rain-affected game along with a reduced innings interval.
If the match continues to be held up by rain and other weather interruptions after all the time reductions and there is no option but to reduce overs, then the match officials calculate the revised number of overs at 14.11 overs per hour of the time left.
