Following a disappointing 2024 season, Punjab Kings enter their 18th IPL edition with a revamped squad. After finishing 9th on the points table, the franchise once again underwent significant changes in search of a turnaround. In a major shake-up, Ricky Ponting was appointed as the new head coach, while Shreyas Iyer was named captain after being acquired for a staggering Rs 26.75 crore.
Punjab Kings also bolstered their squad with Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, and Glenn Maxwell, forming a strong core as they aim to end their decade-long playoff drought since last reaching the knockout stage in 2014.

How Punjab Kings had fared in the previous IPL season
Punjab Kings endured another disappointing IPL campaign in 2024, finishing in ninth spot on the points table with just five wins from 14 matches. The team struggled with inconsistency throughout the season. Captain Shikhar Dhawan missed several matches, which unsettled the batting order, while Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone failed to deliver consistently.
Despite a few standout performances, Punjab’s middle order remained fragile, often collapsing under pressure. Their bowling attack, led by Arshdeep Singh, had some bright moments, but it wasn’t enough to compensate for their batting failures. With Shreyas Iyer now at the helm for IPL 2025 and several key signings strengthening the squad, Punjab Kings will look for a much-improved performance as they aim to break their trophy drought.
