The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 season, which was suspended due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan, could now resume soon after the announcement of a ceasefire. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the suspension of the league on Friday after initially saying it would move to the UAE for the remaining games.

PSL 2025 to resume after ceasefire

According to reports in Geo TV, the PCB has decided to resume the tournament after India and Pakistan reached a full and immediate ceasefire on Saturday. Rawalpindi is likely to host the remaining matches of the tournament with Lahore being touted to conduct the final. The PSL administration has reportedly started working on gathering all six teams in Islamabad and has contacted the franchises about possible resumption plans.

However, there are concerns over restarting the PSL in Rawalpindi because the cricket stadium there was attacked by drones recently.

The reports suggest that foreign players, who left the country by early on Saturday, have been asked to stay in Dubai for now, while local players have been told to get ready. The PCB had earlier shown support to their armed forces and the people affected by the situation and decided to pause the league with eight matches left in the season.

Another major reason was the reluctance of overseas players to stay in Pakistan because of the unsafe environment. Reports suggest that a missile hit a Pakistani military base early on Saturday, just hours before foreign players left for Dubai from the same place. Some players are so scared that they don’t want to travel back to Pakistan.

PCB follows BCCI’s path

Despite the challenges, the PCB is still thinking of resuming PSL 2025 in light of the ceasefire. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is also doing the same on this side of the border. The BCCI held a meeting on Sunday to finalise the new schedule and venues for the resumption of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. A final decision is expected by Sunday night.

The IPL 2025 was suspended for a week on Friday after a game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was disrupted due to a security threat in Dharamsala. After the government announced the ceasefire, the BCCI officials got into action to discuss the resumption of IPL 2025.
