Player Bio

Jamie Smith, a young and promising wicket-keeper batter for Surrey County, began wearing the renowned Three Feathers of the club at the under-10 level and advanced through the age categories.

The former student of Whitgift School was a regular for Surrey at the U-17 level. Although he was sidelined with an injury in the second half of the 2017 season, the young player attracted the attention of the second XI coaching staff. When Ben Foakes and Ollie Pope were ruled out of the preseason trip, he was called up to the senior squad.

A level examinations interfered with Smith's time with the County at the beginning of 2018, but after they were completed, Smith demonstrated his skills with the second XI in the T20 format. On March 24, 2019, the gloveman from Epsom made his first-class debut against the MCC all-star squad. He scored 127 runs in the first innings of the match, smashing a stunning century. He made his List A debut in the same year as well.

In 2022, Smith scored his maiden first-class double hundred with an unbeaten 234 against Gloucestershire in the County Championship. He was part of the Surrey side that won back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023. Smith was included in the England Lions squad in 2023 in the unofficial Test against Sri Lanka A smashed the then fastest hundred for the Lions reaching the milestone in just 71 balls. However, his big moment came in 2024 when he was named in the Test squad for England for the series against West Indies.

Smith made his Test debut in that series and impressed with a fine 70 in his first inning. In the next series, he smashed his maiden Test century against Sri Lanka showing his qualities and already cementing his place as the first-choice wicket-keeper batter in Tests for England and was also named in the squad for the three-match away series against Pakistan. Prior to that, he was named the Men's Young Player of the Year by the Professional Cricketer's Association.
