The announcement comes eight months after Ashwin took the cricketing world by surprise by announcing his retirement from international cricket in the middle of the tour of Australia. PTI

Ashwin signs off from the league as its fourth-highest wicket-taker with 187 wickets in 221 appearances at an average and economy of 30.23 and 7.20 respectively, in addition to 833 runs with the bat at a strike rate of 118.16. PTI

Ashwin was part of the Chennai Super Kings squad in the inaugural IPL season in 2008 and would make his debut the following year. He would continue representing the ‘Yellow Army’ till 2015, registering his best season performance with the ball (20 wickets at an economy of 6.15 in 2011) during this run. AFP

After RPS, Ashwin played two seasons for Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) as captain, collecting 25 wickets across two seasons. PTI

And before his homecoming to Chepauk after a decade, Ashwin represented Rajasthan Royals for three seasons between 2022 and 2024, enjoying his best run with the bat (191 runs at a strike rate of 141.48 in 2022) during this period. PTI

And with CSK earlier this year, in what would be his final IPL season, Ashwin collected seven wickets in nine appearances, making his final appearance in the world’s biggest T20 league against former franchise RR in Delhi. Reuters
