In one of the most extraordinary games in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Punjab Kings defeated defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders by 16 runs despite getting shot out for just 111 after opting to bat. Veteran leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal produced a sensational bowling performance, collecting 4/28 while Marco Jansen chipped in with 3/17 as KKR were bowled out for 95 in reply at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium in Mullanpur near Chandigarh.
The Knight Riders, thus, continued their trend of losing every alternate game this season while the Kings jumped to the fourth spot on the points table after collecting their fourth win in six outings.
PBKS have been involved in record-breaking games in recent years – they had after all pulled off the highest chase in the history of the league by chasing down a target of 262 , also against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, their home ground. More recently, Sunrisers Hyderabad had snapped their losing streak by chasing down 246 like it was a walk in the park, pulling off the second-highest run-chase in the IPL.

The record had previously belonged to Chennai Super Kings, who had successfully defended 116/9 against PBKS (formerly known as Kings XI Punjab) in Durban in 2009, with Punjab managing just 92/8 in 20 overs in reply.
