Sharjah authority implement strict security measures to prevent fan clashes during Pakistan vs Afghanistan matches: Report

Considering the possibility of clashes between fans during the Pakistan vs Afghanistan matches during the upcoming tri-series, the organisers at Sharjah stadium have decided to follow a unique step.

Pakistan vs Afghanistan cricket matches are always eventful, sometimes due to the on-field action, but often because of clashes between fans. These highly anticipated encounters between the neighboring countries have frequently seen emotions run high, with supporters occasionally crossing the line. In light of the possibility of such incidents recurring, authorities at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium have taken a unique step to ensure the smooth conduct of upcoming matches, a report in Pakistan’s Tribune has claimed.

The hot-headed fans of both sides were embroiled in a violent brawl in the Asia Cup 2022. To avoid any repeat of the past incident, separate stands and entry points will be designated for the fans of Pakistan and Afghanistan at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

As a capacity crowd is expected to turn up for the matches, the decision has been taken for the safety and comfort of all spectators.

Organisers have announced that ticket sales will be restricted according to nationality, as fans will be designated with specific seating areas throughout the tournament. The stadium can manage a crowd of 16000 people.

Pakistan vs Afghanistan: Head-to-head in T20Is

Pakistan and Afghanistan have locked horns seven times in the T20Is. Pakistan have won four of these contests, whereas Afghanistan has emerged victorious three times. Thus, it has remained a closely contested affair till now, setting up the interest for the forthcoming clash.

For those who are looking forward to following the particular tri-series action, the series between Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the hosts, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is scheduled to begin on August 29, and it will continue till September 7.

Tri-Nation T20I series schedule

A total of 7 matches will be played among the teams. Each side will play the other side twice in the competition. In the end, the two teams with more points than the third will qualify for the final.

Here’s the schedule of the series:

  • 29 August – Afghanistan vs Pakistan

  • 30 August – UAE vs Pakistan

  • 1 September – UAE vs Afghanistan

  • 2 September – Pakistan vs Afghanistan

  • 4 September – Pakistan vs UAE

  • 5 September – Afghanistan vs UAE

  • 7 September – Final

All the matches will take place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
