Pakistan’s early exit from the Champions Trophy 2025 has led to in-fighting and a blame game among former cricketers. Pace greats Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis have criticized the Pakistan cricket team and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for their recent failures. Meanwhile, former skipper Mohammad Hafeez, who recently served as the men’s team director, has blamed the 1990s greats for failing to win an ICC event and inspire the nation.

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has now joined the chorus of criticism against his former teammate from the 90s. Latif stated that the 90s players should distance themselves from the Pakistan team as they have already served the nation for long enough.

“It took 17 years for Pakistan to win another World Cup because the 90s players did not spare Pakistan cricket," Latif said Geo News show Hasna Mana Hai. “Keep 90s players away from management and from the team as well, then they will try to win.

“They have been serving Pakistan cricket for so long now. So, I think they should rest now."

Rashid Latif slams ‘Dubai boys’ Wasim and Waqar

Later on his YouTube channel, Caught Behind, Latif trained guns at Wasim and Waqar, who are currently in Dubai for the DP World Dressing Room show.

Referring to Wasim and Waqar as “Dubai boys,” Latif said the legendary duo kept fighting throughout their career, hurting Pakistan cricket’s interest. He also accused them of being money-minded.

Waqar, meanwhile, took to social media platform X to send a reminder about Wasim and his glittering bowling career in which they took 1705 wickets together. He posted their combined stats with the hashtag #NotBad and also tagged Wasim in his post.

Hafeez’s comments on Pakistani cricket icons from the 1990s have sparked a social media uproar, with fans from different camps attacking former cricketers. More ex-Pakistani players are expected to get involved in the controversy, even as the national team continues to struggle on the field.
