The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to continue with minimum changes despite the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan after the former launched Operation Sindoor on Wednesday in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack.

While the exact casualty has not been ascertained, the Indian armed forces destroyed nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Wednesday. It was a co-ordinated operation undertaken by India’s air, naval and land-based forces. The Operation Sindoor was conducted after 26 people were killed by the terrorists in India’s Pahalgam region on 22 April.

No changes to IPL dates yet

It’s obvious that the rising tensions between the two countries have also raised question marks over the continuity of the IPL 2025 . However, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sources have said that the league will continue as per plans.

As per a report in ANI, a BCCI source said that the “current circumstances will not have any effect on the IPL scheduling”. So far only the match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Dharamsala has been shifted to Mumbai.

Meanwhile, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal has said that BCCI will continue to follow government guidelines and make changes if needed.

“The IPL Governing Council is keeping an eye on the situation. There are a lot of speculative things going on; we cannot do anything about that. But whenever the time comes to take such a decision where it seems that something needs to be done in the country’s interest, then the BCCI will stand in solidarity with the government and the nation,” he told India Today.

So far, a total of 56 matches have already been played in the IPL 2025 season, while 14 matches are still left.

There’s still no clarity on Punjab Kings’ match against Delhi Capitals (DC), which is scheduled for Thursday (8 May) in Dharamsala.

IPL matches at Dharamsala impacted

Punjab and Delhi IPL teams are already in the city.

The problem here is that multiple airports in India’s north and northwestern region have been shut down following Operation Sindoor, as the country is expecting retaliation from Pakistan. The airports in Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot have been closed until 5:30 am IST on May 10, while the civilian flights have been cancelled at the Kangra airport that serves the Dharamsala region.

The BCCI is currently engaged in discussion with the franchises to chalk out the travel plans from Dharamsala to Delhi in case the airport stays shut.

“Everything is fluid at the moment. Discussions are on with franchises and they are also internally discussing about what are the options of travelling from Dharamsala to Delhi in case the airport remains shut," a BCCI source told PTI.

“One option (for Delhi Capitals) remains bus journey but then it is not just about teams but also the broadcast crew and equipment. It’s an evolving situation," he added.
