Indian cricketers, including the greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, have extended their support to the Indian Army as they launched Operation Sindoor , a co-ordinated attack on terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir on early Wednesday morning (7 May).

The “precise and restrained” attack by the Indian Army has been launched in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack in which the gunmen killed 26 people in the Baisaran valley of Jammu and Kashmir.

Indian cricketers hail the Army for Operation Sindoor

As India launched an attack on the terrorist camps in Pakistan, which for long have trained gunmen to commit violence on Indian soil, the former and current cricketers came forward to extend their support to the Indian Army and lauded its efforts towards protecting the honour of the nation.

Batting great Sachin Tendulkar urged the whole country to be united and denounced terrorism.

“Fearless in unity. Boundless in strength. India’s shield is her people. There’s no room for terrorism in this world. We’re ONE TEAM! Jai Hind,” he wrote on X.

Meanwhile, the Operation Sindoor involved a tri-services deployment of air, naval, and land-based assets. The armed forces used long-distance high-precision weapons in the attack, including SCALP cruise missiles, the HAMMER precision bomb and loitering munitions.

In a brief statement on X, the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, explained that the Pakistan Army infrastructure was untouched as the attack was launched against terrorist camps.

“India has launched #OperationSindoor, a precise and restrained response to the barbaric #PahalgamTerrorAttack that claimed 26 lives, including one Nepali citizen. Focused strikes were carried out on nine #terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, targeting the roots of cross-border terror planning. Importantly, no Pakistani military facilities were hit, reflecting India’s calibrated and non-escalatory approach,” the Ministry of Defence wrote on X.
