Express pacer Mayank Yadav made his first appearance of the 2025 Indian Premier League in Sunday’s afternoon clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, replacing local lad Shardul Thakur in Lucknow Super Giants Playing XI. LSG captain Rishabh Pant, meanwhile, opted to field after winning the toss.
Yadav had made a sensational debut in the IPL last year, clocking speeds of up to 156 kmph and collecting three wickets in each of his first two appearances, against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) respectively, both efforts resulting in victories. His season, however, was cut short due after just four games due to abdominal injury.
Yadav would go on to make his international debut during India’s T20I series against Bangladesh at home, collecting three wickets across two games, but hadn’t played a competitive game since due another fitness concern in the form of a back injury.
Thakur, meanwhile, had gone unsold in the mega auction in November only to be signed by the Super Giants as an injury replacement for fellow pacer Mohsin Khan . He has collected 12 wickets so far this season including a match-winning 4/34 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Impact Shorts
More ShortsMumbai Indians, who are on a four-game winning streak that had briefly taken them to the third spot on the points table, handed South African seam-bowling all-rounder Corbin Bosch his maiden cap. Leg-spinner Karn Sharma was also included as MI benched left-arm finger spinner Mitchell Santner and left-arm wrist spinner Vignesh Puthur.
Bosch had replaced compatriot Lizaad Williams, also a seamer, in MI’s squad for IPL 2025 in March. He previously was part of the Rajasthan Royals squad in 2022 as a replacement for Australia’s Nathan Coulter-Nile, but couldn’t make his IPL debut that season.
Additionally, senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah was benched but named in the ‘Impact Subs’ list for the first game of the Sunday double-header, with Rohit Sharma – who has been playing exclusively as an Impact Player throughout the ongoing season – walking out to bat alongside Ryan Rickelton under the afternoon sun at the Wankhede.
