Former India batter Manoj Tiwary has once again attacked current head coach Gautam Gambhir , just weeks before India face Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup. Tiwary, who has had a long-standing rivalry with Gambhir, did not hold back and called him a “hypocrite” for his double standards.

When Gambhir was just a commentator, he had said that India should not play cricket against Pakistan until cross-border terrorism ends. He had said the same thing earlier this year after the Pahalgam terror attack. But the Asia Cup fixture between India and Pakistan is still going ahead as planned.

Tiwary questioned why Gambhir, who is now head coach of India, has changed his position. He even asked Gambhir to resign in protest against the BCCI for allowing the India-Pakistan match to go ahead.

“I always felt that he’s someone who is a hypocrite. He’s a hypocrite because he’s the one who said that India, when he was not the coach of Team India, said that India and Pakistan should never play a match between them. What will he do now? He’s the coach of the team that’s going to play Pakistan in the Asia Cup,” Tiwary told CricTracker.

“Why can’t he just resign and say that I will not be part of the team India because you are playing with Pakistan?” he added. India and Pakistan are slated to lock horns against each other in the group stage of the Asia Cup 2025 on September 14 in Dubai.

Tiwary slams Gambhir over Jaiswal snub

Tiwary also slammed Gambhir over the 2025 Asia Cup squad announcement. The selectors left out Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal from the team despite their solid performances in the shortest format. Tiwary mentioned an old video of Gambhir where he praised Jaiswal and said the youngster should always be in India’s T20 team.

“He’s the one who said that Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the players who is the future of Team India, and also he’s someone who will not be kept outside T20. He should not be kept outside T20. He should be given a longer run. And now, he’s not there in the team,” Tiwary said.

“So, a lot of things apart from these couple of statements where he said, and he has just done the opposite. So, I always felt that he’s a hypocrite, and he’s always been a hypocrite,” he added.
