Leeds weather forecast, India vs England 1st Test: Rain expected to disrupt match at Headingley after Day 1

The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy - the five-match Test series between England and India starts today (20 June, Friday) with the first game at the Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds. Cricket in England means overcast conditions, swinging ball and sometimes, unwanted rain. So will it rain during the England vs India 1st Test at Leeds?

The weather forecast says Day 1 in Leeds should be alright and we should get to watch all three sessions without much or any interruptions. As per Accuweather, there’s only a 5% chance of rain on Friday (20 June). BCC Weather says there’s a 4% chance of rain on Day 1 of the England vs India Test match in Leeds.

IND vs ENG 1st Test: Leeds weather forecast

As per the weather forecast, expect warm and sunny conditions on Day 1, which means it will be a good day for batting and the team winning the toss could just do that, opt to bat first.

However, things look grim from Day 2. As per Accuweather, there’s a 66% chance of rain on Day 2 (21 June, Saturday) in Leeds and 60% on Day 3 (22 June, Sunday). “Afternoon showers” are predicted on Day 2, while “rain and drizzle” have been forecasted for the evening on Day 3.

Nothing suggests a complete washout of play on any of the scheduled matchdays, but we can expect interruptions. Also, in such a case, Day 2 and Day 3 would ideally be more suited to pace bowling as rain and overcast conditions are expected on those days.

There’s a 25% chance of rain on Monday, which will be Day 4 in the first Test. Also, the temperatures are expected to dip, with maximum temperatures only reported to touch 19 degrees Celsius.

If the match extends to Day 5, then we can experience more rain as the probability of precipitation for Tuesday (24 June) is almost 64%. The good news is that the major prediction is for “morning showers,” which means we may still get multiple overs of play on Day 5 if required.
