Former Ireland cricket star Kevin O’Brien has spoken out strongly against the recent rise in racist attacks targeting Indians in Ireland. His comments came after an Indian man was attacked by three teenagers last Sunday evening in Fairview Park, Dublin. There has been a rapid increase in the instances of physical attacks on Indians in Ireland in the past few weeks.
Kevin O’Brien condemns racist attacks on Indians
In a video message posted on X, Kevin O’Brien said he was “deeply saddened” by the hateful acts. O’Brien, who has not played international cricket since 2022, also sent a message of solidarity to Indians living in Ireland.
“I want to say how deeply saddened I am by the recent racist and hateful acts against Indians in Ireland. These attacks do not represent who we are as a people. India and its people hold a very special place in my heart,” O’Brien said in a video posted by him on X.
“I want to reiterate to the Indian community that Ireland is your home too. Your contribution to Irish society is immense, and we deeply value everything you do. Please remember that the bond between our countries will remain unshaken by the actions of a small few,” he added.
Earlier this month, a six-year-old girl was attacked by a gang of boys outside her home while she was playing in the evening. She was kicked, punched, and hit in her private areas by those boys and asked to go back to India. In another incident, an Indian chef was assaulted by three people on his way to work. Meanwhile, the latest incident has created fear and concern among the community.
