Former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif asserts that Jasprit Bumrah will conclude his Test career soon. Taking the receding pace of Bumrah in the ongoing Test series against England as the base, Kaif deems that Bumrah is struggling to cater to the needs of the longest format of the game, and may take the decisive call soon to give further longevity to his career.
As per a statistic that made waves following the end of Day 3 of the Manchester Test, the number of times Bumrah clocked above the speed of 140 kmph has dramatically plunged as the series progressed.
Kaif predicts Bumrah may exit Test cricket soon
Bumrah notched 140-plus kmph 106 times at Headingley. The number dropped to 69 at Lord’s and plummeted to 1 at Old Trafford. These figures surfaced after the end of Day 3.
“According to me, Bumrah may quit Test cricket in the coming times. He is struggling with his body and due to this, he may have to retire from Test cricket. His speed was not visible in this match and he is a very self-respecting person. If he feels that he is not able to give 100 per cent and is not able to take wickets, then he himself will refuse from playing,” Kaif said in a video posted on social media.
“Whether he gets wickets or not, but he was bowling at the speed of 125-130. In the ball on which he got a wicket, the keeper had to dive forward and catch it,” remarked Kaif.
The aspect of workload management always goes hand in hand with Bumrah, and keeping the same in mind, he had already conveyed that he would not feature in more than three Tests in the ongoing series against England. The said situation has arrived despite management taking every measure to keep the 31-year-old injury-free.
According to Kaif, the taxing demands of Test cricket have drained him and left him struggling for fitness.
“There is the same passion and dedication but he has lost fitness. His body isn’t supporting him. His ineffectiveness in the Test is a clear indication, I think, that he could have difficulties in the future. First Virat (Kohli), Rohit (Sharma) and Ashwin left. Now, I think fans should get used to seeing India without Bumrah,” Kaif said further in the video.

More ShortsIndia’s pace spearhead Bumrah is unarguably at the peak of his career and without a shadow of a doubt the biggest match-winner of the team in every format of the game. Barring the Old Trafford Test, which is still in play, Bumrah has been exceptional with the ball and has taken two fifers in the series. Thus, comments made by Kaif may surprise many.
