Jasprit Bumrah is close to his comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he joined the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday (6 April). The five-time IPL champions made the announcement through a special video which also featured Bumrah’s wife Sanjana Ganesan, his son Angad and the fast bowler sitting on a throne.
In the video, Sanjana could be heard telling Angad: “In 2013, there was a cub who entered the jungle. A jungle full of runs and sixes and boundaries. Where everyone was scared, he showed courage. Over the years, he fought many battles. He fought for survival and for pride. He won and lost, but never gave up. These battles left him with scars, but these cars did not ruin him. Once a cub, now a lion. The lion is back. He is back to be the king of the jungle again.”
When will Bumrah return to the field for Mumbai Indians?
Bumrah joined MI after completing his rehabilitation at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The 31-year-old fast bowler has already missed Mumbai’s four matches in IPL 2025 in which the franchise has only emerged victorious once.

Their only IPL 2025 win so far has come against Kolkata Knight Riders at home. They have lost to Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants so far.
Mumbai Indians’ next match is against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Monday (7 April), however, Bumrah is not expected to play in that.
Bumrah had been out of action since the Sydney Test in early January. He suffered a back injury during the match and was forced to miss the white-ball series against England at home and India’s winning campaign in the Champions Trophy 2025.
