Jason Gillespie slams Pakistan Cricket Board over unpaid wages: 'I'm still waiting on some remuneration'
Former Australia pacer Jason Gillespie had resigned as Pakistan red-ball coach ahead of their tour of South Africa, citing a number of factors for his decision including being ignored over squad selection. AFP

It’s been a while since Jason Gillespie parted ways with the Pakistan cricket team less than a year after being appointed their red-ball head coach. Gillespie however, isn’t done with the Pakistan Cricket Board just yet, with the former Australian pacer recently slamming the board over unpaid wages.

“Yes, without going into details. I’m still waiting on some remuneration from work that’s being done. So I’ll just navigate through that in due course,” Gillespie told Pakistani website PakPassion.

Gillespie remains hopeful of PCB clearing his dues sooner rather than later

The 50-year-old, however, remains hopeful that the Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB will clear his dues sooner rather than later, even if he did not part ways with the team and the board on good terms.

“Admittedly, that’s been a little bit disappointing, but hopefully that can get sorted sooner rather than later. But yes, we’ll learn. But yeah, as I said, hopefully that’ll get sorted as soon as possible,” the former speedster, who took 259 wickets in 71 Tests for Australia, added.

The PCB had appointed Gillespie and ex-South African opener Gary Kirsten as Pakistan head coaches for the red-ball and white-ball formats respectively in April last year.

Neither, however, would see through the end of the year in their roles despite signing two-year contracts, with Kirsten resigning in October after six months in the job, with the Pakistanis having suffered a humiliating first-round exit from the T20 World Cup in June under his and captain Babar Azam’s watch.

Gillespie, meanwhile, would find himself increasingly sidelined by the board in the second half of the year, with the Pakistan suffering a string of defeats in the Test format as well, including a historic 0-2 whitewash against Bangladesh at home.

While Gillespie wasn’t consulted over key decisions such as Pakistan’s squad selection for the tour of South Africa after being removed from the selection committee. And what further drove him towards resignation was the board's decision to part ways with high-performance coach Tim Nielsen , with Gillespie claiming he was “utterly blindsided” by the board in the matter.

He has also accused Aaqib Javed , who currently serves as Pakistan’s head coach across formats, of trying to undermine him as well as Kirsten “behind the scenes” in order to get their jobs while describing him as a “clown”.
