Corbin Bosch switch to Mumbai Indians sparks IPL vs PSL battle as South African all-rounder receives legal notice from PCB

Corbin Bosch joining Mumbai Indians has ignited an IPL vs PSL battle as the South African all-rounder has been reportedly served a legal notice by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Bosch was signed by MI as a replacement for South African pacer Lizaad Williams  after the pacer was ruled out of IPL 2025 due to a knee injury.

With an opportunity to play in the world’s biggest and richest T20 league, Indian Premier League (IPL), Bosch was quick to pull out of the upcoming 2025 season of Pakistan Super League (PSL). Bosch was expected to join PSL side Peshawar Zalmi after being picked in the diamond category at the draft in January.

Bosch spraks IPL vs PSK battle

For the first time this year, the PSL will be running concurrently with the IPL. While the IPL 2025 is set to be played between 22 March to 25 May, the PSL 2025 will run from 11 April 11 to 18 May.

While announcing that legal notice was sent to Bosch, PCB said: “The legal notice was served through his agent, and the player has been asked to justify his actions of withdrawing from his professional and contractual commitments. The PCB management has also outlined the repercussions of his departure from the league and expects his response within the stipulated time frame. The PCB will not make any further comments on the matter.”

The ESPNCricinfo has reported that PSL franchises also wanted an action to be taken against Bosch. They do not want a precedent where players signing for PSL later switch to IPL. A complete ban on such players has also been discussed informally.

Why PSL is running concurrently with IPL?

However, considering the attraction of IPL and its financial strength, more episodes like that of Bosch may take place in the future. Injuries are part and parcel of the game and whenever a player gets injured, IPL franchises may look across the border to opt for a ready-made replacement.

PSL was held earlier in the February-March window, which helped the Pakistan league avoid this conflict, but PCB’s decision to hold it concurrently with IPL was motivated by a desire to create better availability for players for the league. In the February-March window, PSL had to fight with SA20, ILT20 and the BPL for players.
