IPL Auction 2026 Highlights: KKR break bank for Green, Pathirana; CSK splurge on uncapped talent

IPL Auction 2026 Highlights: Cameron Green emerged out as the most expensive overseas player in the history of IPL as he bagged a 25.20-crore contract. Sri Lanka’s Matheesha Pathirana was also bought by KKR for a staggering sum of Rs 18 crore. Chennai Super Kings spent big on uncapped Indian talent, acquiring spin-bowling all-rounder Prashant Veer and wicketkeeper-batter Karthik Sharma for Rs 14.2 crore each. Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan also found takers late in the auction.

IPL Auction 2026 Highlights: The Indian Premier League (IPL) Mini Auction 2026 is done and dusted in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The biggest story from the auction was that Cameron Green is now the highest paid overseas player ever in the history of the league. He fetched Rs 25.20 crore and will be playing for Kolkata Knight Riders next season. Matheesha Pathirana was also signed by KKR for Rs 18 crore. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings took punt on two uncapped youngsters Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma who both were signed for Rs 14.2 crore each, the highest for a player with no international experience. Liam Livingstone was the fifth highest paid player at the auction with SRH acquiring him for Rs 13 crore. Sarfaraz Khan and Prithvi Shaw too found takers.

IPL Auction 2026 LIVE Updates: MI buy local all-rounder Atharva Ankolekar for Rs 30 lakh

Mumbai all-rounder Athrava Ankolekar will be going to Mumbai Indians for just Rs 30 lakh. He is a regular for Mumbai in the domestic circuit. Earlier today, he scored a 9-ball 26 for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

IPL Auction 2026 LIVE Updates: The Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction 2026 will take place on 16 December, Tuesday , at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). And as per the latest reports, 369 players will be up for grabs. Earlier, the BCCI had announced that 350 players would be part of the IPL mini auction, but that number has been increased by 19 players after requests from franchises.

Overall, 77 slots are empty across 10 PL teams, including 31 for overseas players. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who have the biggest remaining purse of Rs 64.30 crore, have the highest empty slots – 13. Chennai Super Kings have the second-highest budget of Rs 43.4 crore and nine slots to fill.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have the second-highest number of slots to fill – 10 – at a budget of Rs 25.5 crore. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians have the smallest budget – Rs 2.75 crore – and five slots to fill.

IPL Auction 2026 Date, Time and LIVE Streaming

The TATA IPL Auction 2026 will be streamed live on the JioHotstar app and website and the live broadcast will be available on Star Sports TV channels. The IPL mini auction will take place from 2.30 PM IST on 16 December, Tuesday, at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

A total of 40 players are part of the highest Rs 2 crore base price and Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is expected to emerge as the most expensive player in the IPL 2026 Auction. Besides Green, keep an eye on Indian talents like Venkatesh Iyer and Ravi Bishnoi, who could also force the IPL franchises to break the bank for them.

Former India batter Sanjay Bangar, in an exclusive conversation with Firstpost, said that England pacer Gus tkinson, who has a base price of Rs 2 crore, could also fetch a massive bid.

“Everyone is talking about big-ticket players. I feel Gus Atkinson goes a little bit under he radar,” Bangar said. “He is a type of bowler who can bowl you a lot of hard lengths with a lot of discipline, so keep an eye on Gus Atkinson as well.”
