The Punjab Kings secured a thrilling three-wicket win over the Gujarat Titans in Match 4 of the (Indian Premier League) IPL 2026 at New Chandigarh on Tuesday. Chasing a target of 163, Punjab reached 165/7 in 19.1 overs, finishing the game with five balls remaining after a tense chase.
Earlier, GT posted 162/6 in their 20 overs after being asked to bat. Captain Shubman Gill played a steady knock of 39 runs from 27 balls, while Jos Buttler contributed 38 off 33 balls. Glenn Phillips also chipped in with a quick 25 runs to push the total past 160. Vijaykumar Vyshak was the standout bowler for PBKS with three wickets, while Yuzvendra Chahal took two important wickets.
Punjab had a shaky start as they lost an early wicket in their chase. However, Prabhsimran Singh scored a quick 37 to give momentum. The turning point of the match came through a brilliant innings from Cooper Connolly, who remained not out on 72 off 44 balls.
Punjab did lose a few wickets in the middle overs, including captain Shreyas Iyer and Marcus Stoinis, which briefly brought Gujarat back into the match. Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna picked up three wickets to keep the pressure on the batting side.
Despite the late fightback, debutant Connolly held his nerve and finished the chase and guided the team to an important win early in the tournament.
