Trade talks have gathered further steam as November 15 has been revealed as the last date for finalising the retentions for all 10 teams for the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). JioStar is going to run a live show on the same date to follow all the developments.
Interestingly, teams known for their instability are the most stable sides going into the retention deadline. Even as champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and finalists Punjab Kings (PBKS) remain mostly aloof, other teams are negotiating hard to get the best deals for their sides.

Some big names like KL Rahul and Washington Sundar were reported to be in the trade market but reports now state that these two India stars will remain with their respective sides. However, the market is still brimming with a few top Indian names.
Below are a few big names that are likely to be released or traded ahead of the retention deadline for IPL 2026.
Sanju Samson
The biggest name in the markets is that of Sanju Samson. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain has reportedly conveyed that he wants to be released. Since then, he has been linked to multiple franchises. The latest report suggests that Samson might be heading closer home to Chennai and a big name might be traded back to the Royals.
Ravindra Jadeja
Chennai Super Kings are reportedly ready to trade Ravindra Jadeja to bring in Samson. If the trade really takes place, Jadeja would be back to the franchise he made his IPL debut for and it will be one of the biggest trades in the history of the league. Reports say that the negotiations are currently on, but nothing is finalised.
Impact Shorts
More ShortsVenkatesh Iyer
The biggest surprise of last year’s auction was Venkatesh Iyer’s INR 23.75 cr price tag. The all-rounder could not match the expectations and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) too had a poor season. His release might be on the cards as that would free up a lot of money for KKR with which they can fill the gaps in their squad.
Glenn Maxwell
In what will be a rare instance, Punjab Kings are likely to go into the auction with a stable side and yet Glenn Maxwell could find himself in the auction. The Aussie all-rounder had another underwhelming IPL last year and PBKS could release him and look to buy him back for lesser value than his current INR 4.20 cr.
Devon Conway
The Kiwi opener played a crucial role in CSK’s 2022 title win with 672 runs, but his form has really gone down in recent times. His release will free up INR 6.75 cr for CSK and with a younger Rachin Ravindra, who provides the same skillset, in their ranks, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side might part ways with Conway.
Other likely releases
The Sri Lankan spin duo of Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana could be released from RR after their underwhelming performance last year. David Miller could also be back in the auction after an ordinary outing for Lucknow Super Giants last season. Among Indians, Akash Deep might be released by LSG while CSK could also look to part ways with Rahul Tripathi and Vijay Shankar.
