Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Mayank Yadav is reportedly set to miss the first few games of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. One of the reports has stated that Mayank Yadav could be out of the first half of IPL 2025.

Mayank Yadav, who made his India debut in a T20I against Bangladesh last year, has often struggled with injuries, only playing four matches in IPL 2024.

He was signed for Rs 20 lakh by LSG for the 2024 season but the franchise dished out Rs 11 crore this time to retain him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. However, news agency PTI says that Mayank Yadav will be missing the first few matches in IPL 2025 as he is yet to be declared fit by the medical and sports science team at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru.

The 22-year-old Delhi pacer picked up the latest injury after playing three T20Is for India in October 2024. While there’s no confirmation, ESPNCricinfo says he is suffering from a stress-related injury in his lower back

“Mayank is expected to get fit in some time but he might have to miss the first few games of the Indian Premier League. As of now it could be first two to three games. He has just started bowling at NCA and will slowly be building his load,” a BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

ESPNCricinfo says Mayank Yadav will only be available in the second part of IPL 2025.

One of the reasons LSG invested heavily in Mayank Yadav was his ability to bowl 150kph deliveries . While taking seven wickets in four matches last season, he bowled with an economy of just 7. He was also declared the Player-of-the-Match in his first two matches in the IPL 2024.

Mayank had to withdraw from IPL 2024 after just four matches due to a side-strain injury.

LSG will play their first match of IPL 2025 against Delhi Capitals on 24 March in Visakhapatnam.
