Virat Kohli was in top form again on Sunday, leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a seven-wicket win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their IPL 2025 clash at Mullanpur. Kohli’s unbeaten 73 off 54 balls, combined with Devdutt Padikkal’s 61 off 35, helped RCB chase down a target of 158 with seven balls to spare.

But while RCB celebrated a solid win, it was a post-match moment between Kohli and PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer that had fans talking online.

Frosty exchange between Kohli and Iyer

Virat Kohli, known for his passionate celebrations, turned animatedly toward Shreyas Iyer after the winning runs were hit by Jitesh Sharma. While it seemed like Kohli was just having fun and pulling Iyer’s leg, the PBKS skipper clearly wasn’t in the mood.

During the customary post-match handshake, Iyer looked visibly annoyed. While Kohli was still smiling and trying to keep things light, Iyer kept a stone-faced expression and engaged in a short but tense exchange with his India teammate.

The handshake ended with a light shove from Iyer, making it clear he wasn’t amused by Kohli’s celebration. Kohli, however, didn’t react and kept smiling before moving on to greet the other players. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

Kohli’s record-breaking knock

The drama didn’t take away from another excellent performance by Virat Kohli. His 73 not out included seven fours and a six, and it was his fourth half-century of the season. The knock also helped him surpass David Warner for the most 50-plus scores in IPL history. Kohli now has 67 such scores, which include a record eight centuries.

Padikkal also impressed, hitting his first fifty of the season with a quick 61 off 35 balls, helping RCB build a strong base after an early wicket.

Earlier in the match, RCB bowlers did a great job in limiting Punjab Kings to 157/6. Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma took two wickets each, while Romario Shepherd made an impact by dismissing Iyer for just six in his first match of the season.

With this win, RCB not only got two important points but also avenged their earlier loss to PBKS in a rain-affected game at home.
