After a thrilling contest between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer made a strong statement that caught everyone’s attention. DC handed a six-wicket defeat to PBKS in their final match of the season at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday.

Speaking after the match, Iyer said that the Indian Premier League is bigger than the English Premier League. His comment came as the IPL 2025 points table became even more tangled, with the battle for the top two spots still up in the air. With all four qualified teams having one game left before the playoffs, DC’s win over PBKS has only added to the drama.

“It was a fantastic score. There was some odd and variable bounce. It was above par. I think we weren’t disciplined enough with our lengths. We weren’t overboard with the bouncer. Couldn’t hit the hard length. It is bigger than the Premier League. You got to stay positive and calm. You come in with fresh mindset on the next day. You have to stick to the present. We got to go back to the drawing board. We will look to come in with some strong plans. The finger should be fine for the next game,” Iyer said at the post-match presentation.

IPL 2025: Top 2 race intensifies

Meanwhile, the match itself was a high-scoring thriller. Delhi Capitals chased down a target of 207 in just 19.3 overs thanks to a brilliant unbeaten knock of 58 off 25 balls from 21-year-old Sameer Rizvi. He smashed five sixes and three fours in his maiden IPL fifty.

Karun Nair, who made a comeback to the Indian Test team after 8 years earlier in the day when the BCCI announced the squad for the England series, also played an important role for DC with a solid 44 off 27 balls. The entire top order contributed as DC chased down the target with three balls remaining.

Punjab Kings had earlier posted 206 for 8, riding on Shreyas Iyer’s own classy knock of 53 and a quickfire 44 not out off just 16 balls from Marcus Stoinis. But despite the total, Punjab’s bowlers failed to defend it, and Delhi snatched a memorable win to end their season on a high.

Punjab Kings, despite the loss, are still in the top three, tied at 17 points with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. With only one match left for each side in the top 4, the Qualifier 1 race is getting intense. Teams who finish in the top 2 will play Qualifier 1 and the winner will directly qualify for the final. The losing side will get another chance when they face the winner of the Eliminator in Qualifier 2.
