The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season has restarted but the weather in Bengaluru is not helping. Rain has delayed the big match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

So, what happens if the rain doesn’t stop and the match between RCB and KKR is called off?

What happens if the match is abandoned?

The IPL doesn’t have a reserve day for league matches and hence the RCB vs KKR game will most likely be called off if the rain doesn’t stop in time.

If the match is abandoned without a ball being bowled, both RCB and KKR will get one point each. This could affect the IPL 2025 points table, especially since every team is now fighting hard for a spot in the top 4.

For a result to happen, at least a 5-over-per-side game needs to be played. If the rain stops and the outfield is dried up quickly, the umpires can decide to start a shortened match. The cut-off time for such a game will depend on how long the rain lasts.

Both teams would want the match to take place

The match holds huge importance for both teams. KKR desperately need the game to happen tonight as they are in a do-or-die situation and need the full two points to stay alive in the IPL 2025 playoff race.

On the other hand, RCB are in a much stronger position and a win here will make them the first team to officially qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs. So, both sides will be hoping for the rain to stop and at least a short game to be played.
