The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season is all set to kick off with a match between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens on 22 March. A total of 74 matches will be played across 13 venues with the final slated to be held on 25 May in Kolkata.

IPL 2025 prize money: What’s at stake?
For the IPL 2025 season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to continue the previous trend, where the winner will receive INR 20 crore, with the runner-up earning around INR 13 crore.
Apart from the two finalists, the two losing teams in the playoffs will also receive cash prizes, along with individual awards for top performers, including the Orange Cap (highest run-scorer), Purple Cap (highest wicket-taker), and Emerging Player of the Tournament.
Evolution of IPL prize money over the years
Since its inception in 2008, the IPL prize money has undergone several changes, reflecting the league’s financial growth and success.
2008-2009: The winners received INR 4.8 crore, while the runner-up earned INR 2.4 crore.
2010-2013: The prize money saw a significant jump, with the winning team taking home INR 10 crore and the runner-up earning INR 5 crore.
2014-2015: BCCI increased the winner’s prize money to INR 15 crore, while the runner-up’s earnings were doubled to INR 10 crore.
2016: Another boost saw the winner’s prize increase to INR 16 crore, while the runner-up took INR 10 crore.
2017: The prize pool reverted to the INR 15 crore (winner) and INR 10 crore (runner-up) structure.
