Rookie opener Priyansh Arya finally lived up to his reputation, smashing a stunning 39-ball century as Punjab Kings (PBKS) survived a late blitz from MS Dhoni to clinch a thrilling 18-run win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2025 on Tuesday. From hitting six sixes in an over in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) to taking apart one of the most successful IPL franchises, it was a dream-come-true performance for the young star.
The 24-year-old left-hander from Delhi lit up the night with his 103 off just 42 balls, an innings laced with 7 fours and 9 towering sixes, as PBKS posted a commanding 219/6. This is the joint-fourth fastest century in the league’s history, and Arya achieved the feat in just his fourth match of his IPL career. The recovery was remarkable, considering Punjab were five down inside eight overs. Shashank Singh and Marco Jansen contributed in the middle order.

“The feeling is out of this world. I am happy but I want to contribute more for the team. This is my way (of batting). Shreyas bhaiya told me to bat with intent. Even if I get out, there are no worries and just to play what I have in my mind. Have to play the situation also,” Priyansh Arya said after the match.

PBKS having dream IPL run, CSK sink deeper
Chennai’s chase started positively, with Rachin Ravindra (36 off 23) and Devon Conway (69* off 49, retired out) setting a solid foundation. Shivam Dube carried the fight deep with a quick 42 off 27 balls, but with 75 needed off the last five overs, the pressure began to build.
Promoted to No. 5, CSK legend MS Dhoni briefly turned back the clock, hammering Lockie Ferguson for back-to-back sixes in the 18th over and giving his team some hope. But with 43 needed off the final two overs, even Dhoni’s heroics, 27 off 12 balls, weren’t enough as CSK finished on 201/5.
The result marked Punjab’s third win in four games and CSK’s fourth loss in their last five, a worrying slide for the former champions. While PBKS sit in the fourth place in the IPL 2025 points table, Chennai are ranked ninth and have a negative NRR.
