Punjab Kings (PBKS) finally ended their winless streak at their second home in Dharamsala with a massive 37-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday. The PBKS victory was led by a blistering 91 from Prabhsimran Singh and a fiery 3-wicket haul from Arshdeep Singh.
Prabhsimran and Arshdeep star for PBKS
Prabhsimran’s 48-ball 91, which included 6 fours and 7 sixes, laid the foundation for Punjab’s mammoth 236/5, their highest total at the HPCA Stadium. Shreyas Iyer (45 off 25) set the tone, while Shashank Singh (33 not out off 15) and Marcus Stoinis (15 not out off 5) added the finishing touches.
On the bowling front, Arshdeep Singh struck early blows, removing Marsh, Markram, and Pooran inside the Powerplay. Azmatullah Omarzai chipped in with two key wickets of Rishabh Pant and David Miller as PBKS restricted LSG to 199/7 in their chase of 237.
“This was a very good innings because these two points were very vital for us,” said Prabhsimran, who was named Player of the Match. “At the start, I couldn’t read the wicket instantly, but once we did, we knew we needed 200-plus. I just wanted to capitalise on the chance I got.”
Shreyas Iyer lauds team effort
PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer lauded the entire team’s effort and said that everyone stepped up at the right time.
“Elated, to be honest. Everyone stepped up at the right time. The way Prabhsimran played, it was exceptional and so pleasing to the eye. We weren’t thinking about stats or what’s a good score to defend. The mindset was simple: step onto the field and win,” Iyer said.
“We have been lucky, but the luck has come because of the hard work. The only box we need to tick is fielding awareness, otherwise, everyone knows their role,” he added.
Pant admits fielding lapses cost LSG
Meanwhile, LSG captain Rishabh Pant didn’t shy away from admitting where things went wrong for his side. “Definitely too many runs. When you drop crucial catches at the wrong time, it can hurt badly. We didn’t pick the length early, and that cost us,” Pant said.
“The dream is still alive. If we can win the next three, we can turn things around,” Pant said on LSG’s chances of making it to the playoffs. But with LSG now needing more than just wins, the loss against PBKS may have just pushed them to the brink of elimination.
