Mumbai Indians registered a strong 4-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their IPL 2025 clash on Thursday. It was Will Jacks who stood out with both bat and ball. The English all-rounder, who hadn’t made a big impact in earlier games, finally showed what he’s capable of with a match-winning all-round performance that earned him the Player of the Match award.

Jacks shines with bat and ball

Jacks picked up 2 wickets for just 14 runs and then scored a quickfire 36 off 26 balls. Speaking after the match, Jacks admitted he had been frustrated with his slow start to the tournament.

“The tournament’s been a bit of a slow start for the team and me. It was incredibly frustrating. Very happy to have done that. Tough start, dropping a catch on the first ball. I was a bit late on it, not much else to say, should’ve caught it. Taken me a bit of time to settle into the new franchise, comfortable and confident now. Great set up, loads of star players to learn of, trying to take advantage of that,” Jacks said.

Hardik Pandya, the MI captain, was pleased with how the team bowled and managed the game, especially with the ball.

“The way we bowled was very smart and spot on. We stuck to simple plans. Credit to the bowlers, we made them hit good shots, which wasn’t easy,” he said.

“The pitch had a green look early on, and Deepak bowled a few balls that stuck. So we decided to use change of pace. We mixed it up and executed the yorkers really well,” he added.

Speaking about Jacks’ contribution, Hardik said, “He can be a gun fielder and bowl those gun overs. Today it came off for him. When we needed 42 off 42, we knew it was tricky, so we took our time and didn’t get excited. Once we got a few boundaries, we finished it off.”

Cummins on SRH’s poor run

Pat Cummins, the SRH skipper, admitted that their score of 162 was below par. he said that SRH need to improve their performance in away games if they want to reach the IPL 2025 playoffs.

“Wasn’t the easiest of wicket, 160 was a few short. It was a tricky wicket, cutters were gripping. They shut down a lot of our scoring areas. I thought we had all bases covered, 160 you feel a little bit short, I thought we gave it a good crack with the ball. We thought we needed wickets, had plenty of death bowling in Eshan, Harshal and myself. Got to play well away from home to make the finals, unfortunately not clicked yet,” Cummins said.
