IPL 2025 Revised Schedule Announcement Highlights: IPL to resume on 17 May, final on 3 June

The BCCI has confirmed the resumption of IPL 2025. The league will restart on 17 May and the final will take place on 3 June.

The playoffs are scheduled as follows:

· Qualifier 1 – May 29

· Eliminator – May 30

· Qualifier 2 – June 1

· Final – June 3

Virat Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma took to social media to share a heartfelt message after his Test retirement on Monday.

Speaking to PTI, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia added: “In the next few days, we will begin consultations with the franchises, broadcasters, sponsors and the state associations slated to host the remaining matches before crystallizating to a decision on the league’s resumption.

“Given that the importance of IPL at this juncture, it will also be prudent and necessary to take the nod of the Government of India before finalising the time for its restart.”

With Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announcing their retirements from Test cricket in a span of a week, and having bid Twenty20 Internationals goodbye last year, the remaining matches of the ongoing IPL season will be the the final matches of the summer for the two stalwarts.

India will not be playing One-Day Internationals until August in Bangladesh, but even that trip remains doubtful due to recent tensions between New Delhi and Dhaka, as well as potential security concerns in Bangladesh. Should India pull out of that trip, the next 50-over assignment for the Men in Blue will be in October during the white-ball tour of Australia.

Both players have returned to Australia, and their participation in the remaining 12 league matches and the playoffs – if their franchises qualify – remains doubtful as of now, according to latest reports. And given their history with injuries and other fitness issues, Starc and Hazlewood might be looking to keep themselves fit for the World Test Championship match against South Africa that gets underway on 11 June at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Australia captain Pat Cummins, Starc and Hazlewood’s colleague in the pace department, might not enjoy that luxury as he captains Sunrisers Hyderabad and his availability is crucial for the franchise.

Things have been calm at the Pakistan border and adjoining areas ever since New Delhi and Islamabad arrived at a ceasefire agreement on Saturday, despite the Pakistan armed forces violating the truce within hours.

The Government of India might wait for a couple of more days before giving the BCCI to go ahead to get the world’s biggest T20 league back in action. The IPL’s week-long suspension ends by Thursday, giving the government and board a couple of days’ time to assess the situation before taking a call.

The only way the BCCI will be able to conduct the remaining 16 matches of the season without much hassle is if they stick to their plan of having the matches in the two-week window between 16-30 May.

Any delay beyond that, and the board will have to deal with the headache of hosting the IPL in a cramped international calendar. ( READ MORE )
