In one of the most dramatic finishes of IPL 2025 , Gujarat Titans snatched a thrilling 3-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians via DLS method at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday night. Chasing a revised target of 147 in 19 overs following a rain delay, GT needed 15 runs from the final over, and they did it with zero balls to spare, in what will be remembered as one of the most entertaining matches of the season.

MI’s collapse in final moments

Deepak Chahar was given the responsibility of bowling the high-pressure final over of the rain-affected thriller for MI, while Rahul Tewatia and Gerald Coetzee were at the crease for GT. The first ball of the over saw Tewatia plant his front foot and loft a full delivery over mid-off for four, immediately shifting pressure back on Chahar. Tewatia then took a single and brought Coetzee on strike.

The next delivery, bowled to Coetzee, was right in the slot, a perfect hitting length, and the South African did not miss. He launched it into the stands over long-off for a six. With 5 runs now required off 4 balls, the momentum had swung massively. Chahar, feeling the heat, bowled a yorker on leg stump and Coetzee squeezed it out for a single. However, the siren soon blared as Chahar had overstepped. It was a no-ball, gifting GT an extra run and a free hit.

That no-ball completely changed the scenario again, with GT now needing just 3 from 3 balls. Tewatia took a single off the free hit to bring down the equation to 2 off 2. But there was one final twist. Coetzee tried to finish the game with another big shot but mistimed and was caught at square leg. It gave MI a glimmer of hope with 1 ball remaining and 1 run required.

In came Arshad Khan, facing the pressure of the final delivery with the crowd roaring. He drilled the ball back towards mid-off and set off for a desperate single. MI skipper Hardik Pandya collected and had a clear sight of the stumps but missed the direct hit. Arshad, diving full stretch, made his ground, and the Titans erupted in celebration.

Earlier in the chase, Shubman Gill played a captain’s knock, scoring 43 off 46 balls, while Jos Buttler contributed 30. After Buttler’s dismissal, Sherfane Rutherford came in and started swinging, keeping GT ahead of the DLS par score for most of the innings. But once the first spell of rain came and the momentum broke, Mumbai stormed back into the contest.

Jasprit Bumrah (2/19) and Trent Boult (2/22) were outstanding, dismantling the middle order and giving MI real hope. The turning point came after the second rain delay, where Mumbai’s bowling let them down. A missed run-out by Hardik Pandya on the final ball also played a part. For Gujarat, it was a win that took them to the top of the IPL 2025 points table.
