Punjab Kings’ all-rounder Glenn Maxwell etched his name in the IPL record books for an unwanted reason as he registered his 19th duck in the tournament’s history. The Australian star was dismissed for a first-ball duck against Gujarat Titans in their IPL 2025 opener on Tuesday, reclaiming the record for most ducks in the IPL, just two days after Rohit Sharma had equaled the tally.
Maxwell, known for his explosive batting, fell for a golden duck when Gujarat Titans’ spinner R Sai Kishore trapped him LBW in Punjab Kings’ IPL 2025 encounter. This dismissal pushed Maxwell ahead of Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik, who were tied at 18 ducks before Tuesday’s match.
Maxwell records most ducks in IPL history
Glenn Maxwell – 19 ducks (130 innings)
Rohit Sharma – 18 ducks (253 innings)
Dinesh Karthik – 18 ducks (234 innings)
Piyush Chawla – 16 ducks (92 innings)
Sunil Narine – 16 ducks (111 innings)
Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai Indians captain, had drawn level with Maxwell and Karthik on Sunday after being dismissed for zero against Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai’s IPL 2025 opener. However, Maxwell wasted no time in reclaiming ownership of the record.
IPL 2025: Gujarat Titans vs Punjab Kings
Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings played their opening game of the IPL 2025 season in Ahmedabad. GT won the toss and elected to field first. PBKS set a mammoth total of 243/5 thanks to an explosive 97-run knock from skipper Shreyas Iyer. Contributions from Priyansh Arya (47 off 23) at the top of the order and Shashank Singh (44 off 16) at bottom helped Punjab’s cause of setting a big total and putting the scoreboard pressure on Shubman Gill’s side.
Meanwhile, Maxwell got on the match card by taking a wicket in the second innings as he dismissed GT captain Gill, who was looking solid at 33 off 14 balls. The wicket provided PBKS with a huge boost as they needed a breakthrough at that time. Punjab went on to win the match by 11 runs as they restricted Gujarat to 232/5 in 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh picked up two wickets in the final over to close the game.
