The much-awaited IPL 2025 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) is set to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, 3 June. But just before the big clash, rain has started to show up in the city, leaving fans and followers worried. While rain has stopped for now, everyone is hoping the skies remain clear at the time of the match.
What if rain interrupts the IPL 2025 final?
If rain interrupts the RCB vs PBKS final, the IPL has a system in place. The match officials will allow a total of 120 minutes of extra time to try and complete a full game on the scheduled day, which is 3 June. So, fans don’t need to worry if the match gets delayed because, just like in Qualifier 2, a full match can still happen even if the start is late.
Is there a reserve day for RCB vs PBKS final?
If the rain does not stop and the match gets washed out completely on 3 June, the final will be moved to a reserve day – Wednesday, 4 June. The reserve day gives both teams one more chance at playing a proper final and deciding the winner. The IPL 2023 final between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings was held over two days at the same venue due to bad weather.
What if it rains on reserve day too?
If the rain continues even on the reserve day and the RCB vs PBKS match cannot be played at all, then the IPL 2025 final will be declared abandoned.
Who wins if the IPL 2025 final is abandoned?
If the RCB vs PBKS final is canceled due to rain, even after using the reserve day, then the team that finished higher in the league stage will be declared the winner of IPL 2025.
In this case, even though both RCB and PBKS finished the league stage with 19 points, Punjab Kings will be crowned champions because they have a slightly better Net Run Rate (NRR). So, if there is no game at all, PBKS will lift their maiden IPL trophy.
